About Royal Mail
Royal Mail celebrates their 500th birthday in 2016 (since 1516), and operates as “Royal Mail Group” – which owns Royal Mail plc, Parcelfoce Worldwide and General Logistics Systems.
This is the United Kingdom’s postal service and is responsible for collecting and delivering mail throughout the UK. Letters and parcels are to be deposited in the “pillars” or “Wall Boxes” usually bearing the infamous red colour, taken to a Post Office or collected from businesses.
Deliveries are expected to be made once a day with the exception of bank holidays and Sundays.
It has a long history of being owned by the government (reference) of the United Kingdom, but this was changed recently at first in 2011 when 70% of the shares in the company were floated on the stock market – then later in 2015, the conservative government sold of it’s remaining 30% stake and the 499 year history ceased.
