About Ovo

Ovo is a Bristol-based energy supply company that supplies gas and electricity to properties in the United Kingdom. The company was founded by Stephen Fitzpatrick in 2009 after a few friends shared their thoughts on what their energy suppliers were missing. Today, it is one of the many small energy companies attempting to compete with the largest energy suppliers in the UK, also known as the ‘Big Six’.

Unlike many of the largest energy suppliers in the UK, it is an independent company, privately backed and British-owned. The company is known for its efforts to supply ‘cleaner energy’ which involves using no coal or nuclear energy sources. Instead, the company only uses renewable and natural gas energy sources.

Initially, the company provided energy solely to domestic properties but, in 2013, the company expanded their services to business clients too. As of 2017, the company is thought to have approximately 680,000 customers, reportedly increasing the number of customers by the thousands since the previous year. The company has won a number of awards, including the uSwitch Energy Supplier of the Year award and Value for Money award in 2017.
