About Opodo

Opodo is a travel agency that specialises in online sales. It is a pan-European venture founded by a number of European travel companies. The company was launched in 2001.

It was founded by travel companies across Europe, including Aer Lingus in Ireland, Alitalia in Italy, Air France, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Finnair in Finland, Iberia in Spain, KLM in the Netherlands, and Lufthansa in Germany.

The first branch of the agency was launched in Germany in the early 2000s, and a UK branch was launched in the following year. Today, the company headquarters are based in London and operations run from over 10 European countries, including France, Spain, Italy, and the UK. Until fairly recently, Amadeus IT Group, a Spanish travel technology provider, owned over 99% of the company.

Today, the agency is part of eDreams ODIGEO, a merger of eDreams, GO Voyages, Opodo Travellink and Liligo, and is currently one of the largest online travel companies in Europe. It boasts access to over 500 airlines and more than 150,000 places of accommodation throughout Europe.

Furthermore, it offers approximately 7,000 car rentals and 20,000 cruise sailings. It operates individual websites for each of the countries it operates in, providing specialised services for each place and its residents. In 2016, they won the Best Flight Booking Website award from the British Travel Awards.
