MotoNovo, also known as MotoNovo Finance, is a finance provider based in London. Its name means moving (moto) and change (novo) in Latin. The company generally focuses on providing finance for customers who need financial help to buy cars or motorbikes.
It is a division of FirstRand Bank Limited, a South African bank that provides international services. MotoNovo is registered in England by the South African Reserve Bank and authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority, a British financial regulatory body.
The company was founded by Sir Julian Hodge in 1972 in Cardiff, Wales. Back then, it was called Carlyle Finance. However, it wasn’t until 2000 that the company really started to thrive, taking on new leadership and setting up a new business programme.
It wasn’t long after this move that the company became the leading independent motor finance business in the UK. In 2006, the leading car finance company in South Africa, WesBank, took over the business. From this point onwards, the company invested in technology, recruitment, and new premises.
The company managed to make it through the Banking Crisis and the PPI scandal, and in 2012, it rebranded itself as MotoNovo. In the following years, MotoNovo overtook Barclays and Santander in the UK’s list of top performing finance companies, putting it in second place as of in 2016. It also made approximately £52 million in profit between the years 2014 and 2015.
Today, MotoNovo boasts thousands of new customers joining them every week and is one of the most successful businesses in Wales. Furthermore, the company was recently voted the 12th Best Company To Work For in the UK by The Sunday Times.
