About Churchill Insurance
Churchill Insurance is a British insurer headquartered in Bromley, London. It is registered in England and Wales with a registered office in Leeds. The company offers a wide range of insurance and cover, including car, home, life, pet, travel and van insurance.
Their policies are underwritten by U K Insurance Limited, a Leeds-based insurance and underwriting service provider, which is regulated by the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Direct Line Insurance Group, which also owns Direct Line, Green Flag, and Privilege.
The company was founded in 1989 by Martin Long and was one of the first direct car insurance companies in the country at the time. Not long after launching, the company began to provide home insurance as well as car insurance.
In the 90s, it started to provide breakdown cover, credit cards, pet insurance, motorcycle insurance, and travel insurance. Around this time, the company also launched its first website. In the 2000s, it was bought by the Royal Bank of Scotland Group before being bought by Direct Line Insurance Group, the insurer’s current parent company.
Over the years, it has won a number of Your Money Awards, including Best Online Home and Contents Insurance Provider on three occasions, Best Motor Insurance Provider on six occasions, and Best Online Motor Insurance Provider on six occasions. The company is perhaps most well-known for its nodding bulldog mascot, Winston Churchill, named after the prime minister of the 40s.
