Tips for Contacting Argos
• Ensure you have your account number to hand if you have registered online. If you purchased your item(s) from a store, check your receipt to get your item number, this can be handy to have as it will facilitate your enquiry.
• When calling the Argos customer service number, listen to the voice message system and follow the prompts carefully to ensure you get through to the correct department. Once you’re through, you may be asked some security questions to verify your identity. This is standard procedure and is there for your account protection.
• If you’re making a return, you should know the returns policy for the item you’re returning. Different items have different policies and this information can be found on their website or you can call the Argos telephone number provided here to find out more.
• Please treat the advisors with the respect they deserve. Argos customer service staff are trained to deal with a variety of issues, but aren’t obliged to withstand any verbal abuse.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I return something?
They offer a 30 day money back guarantee on their items. If the item is unused and in it’s original condition, it can be refunded or exchanged for another item. Your proof of purchase is required and this is either your confirmation email or store receipt.
If the item is damaged or faulty, just take it in to your local Argos store. For more information, use the Argos phone number provided here to speak to an advisor.
Where is my order?
If your item is being delivered, check your store receipt or confirmation email to see an estimate on the arrival date and time. You can also go to the “Order Tracker” option on their website to track your parcel. There is a live chat option online as well, or you could use the Argos contact number to speak to the staff regarding your delivery.
Does Argos you sell gift cards?
Yes, but these will need to be collected in-store. They do not currently offer electronic gift cards and you are currently unable to purchase these over the phone.

About Argos
Argos was founded by Richard Tompkins in 1972, who in 1973, rebranded the Green Shield Stamps as Argos. BAT Industries purchased the company in 1979 and it was introduced to the FTSE 100Index in 1990.
Unique as a retailer in it’s early days, customers could call the Argos Helpline and place order that were then manually processed and delivered to the home.
In 1998, GUS plc purchased it and it became part of the Home Retail Group. More recently, it has been bought by the supermarket retailer, Sainsbury’s (2016). This acquisition is due to be completed later on in 2016 and an overhaul of the Argos brand is expected. This may include the shut down of many or all of their physical stores as they are to be integrated into existing Sainsbury’s supermarkets.
This move by Sainsbury’s has been seen as a marketing response to the increasingly popular “Tesco Direct” catalogue that was started a few years ago (reference) and has quickly been a contender in the home shopping market due to it’s already existing supply chain or discounted goods. Argos/Sainsbury’s will already have the experience of a catalogue behind it and be able to compete with Tesco.
In 1980, Argos opened the Elizabeth Duke jewellery department and within two years this became the UK’s fourth biggest retailer. This has since changed names, but jewellery from them is still extremely popular in the UK.
