1st Central is a car insurance company based in the United Kingdom. It is a subsidiary of FCG, or First Central Group, which is also the parent company of Skyfire Insurance. The company was officially founded in 2008 and is headquartered in Haywards Heath. There are approximately 600 employees at the company working in two offices. The company is believed to have sold more than 2 million policies since its founding.
1st Central started out in 2006 when four businessmen – Ken Acott, Tom Acott, Peter Creed, and Patrick Tilley – came together to create First Central Enterprises Limited. The business was officially founded and sold its first car insurance policy in 2008 via Go Compare, a price comparison website. Following its first sale, the company branched out to other price comparison sites, such as CompareTheMarket.com, Confused.com, and MoneySupermarket.com.
In 2013, the company launched its first television advert and sold its one millionth insurance policy. Not long after, the company was rated at five stars by Defaqto, a well-known UK-based independent financial information company, and has maintained this rating between 2014 and 2017. Furthermore, it has won a number of prestigious awards, including an Employer of the Year award on three separate occasions and the Highly Commended award from Celent Model Insurer Awards in 2014.
