About Sheilas’ Wheels

Sheilas’ Wheels is a car insurance company catered to female drivers. The company is owned by Esure, another car insurance company based in the UK. It was founded in 2005 by Peter Wood, the founder of Direct Line and Esure.

The company came about after research showed that women would benefit from different kinds of car insurance and cover than men. Unlike many insurance companies, Sheilas’ Wheels policies often included great cover for handbags left in cars and female friendly repair workers.

The Esure Group website reports that within two years of launching, Sheilas’ Wheels was the “most well-known female car insurance brand amongst women aged 25-55”. In the following years, the company also launched Sheilas’ Wheels Broker and Sheilas’ Wheels Broker Model Driver, which offered more insurance products as an extension of the Sheilas’ Wheels brand.

Today, the company provides everything from car insurance to breakdown cover and misfuelling cover to motor legal protection. It even offers specialised counselling for issues such as road rage or dealing with the aftermath of a car accident. At the time of writing, the company has three branches and approximately 2,000 staff members.

It is particularly famous for its adverts featuring three ‘Sheilas’ – three women in sparkly, pink dresses – who sing songs from the ‘Sheilamobile’ – a pink convertible. The popularity of the brand has prompted the three singers to perform gigs throughout the UK, and a number of parodies of the Sheilas’ Wheels adverts to be made.
