The Dragon float

A group of 12 young people worked with an artist to create a giant dragon's head and body. 4 people were needed to carry the dragon and the remainder of the young people dressed up in Samurai Warrior and Geisha Girl costumes which they made themselves. Volunteers helped by doing the Geisha's hair and makeup and one of the Geisha's carried a pearl which, according to tradition,  the dragon follows. The float was entered in the St Albans Carnival in June and won first prize, earning the young people money for the charity of their choice, Herts Young Homeless Group. Two of the young people attended a ceremony in St Albans where they accepted their cheque from the mayor. The Dragon Flat was also part of Larks in the Park in London Colney on July 3rd. To celebrate their success, staff took young people on a bowling trip to Hemel Hempstead.
