About Santander

Santander UK plc is the British bank that falls under the Spanish Santander Group. Although only starting in 2010 in the UK, Santander has already got a customer base of over 14 million people, over 1000 branches, over 20 000 employees and 50 corporate business centres. This is due to the mergers of Bradford & Bingley plc, Abbey National plc and Alliance & Leicester.

Although operating as a subsidiary, The UK Santander is almost completely alone in it’s function, responsible for it’s own performance and being completely managed locally.

The Santander customer service team suffered from a poor reputation in the first couple of years (reference) and it quickly broke this cycle by intensifying training and focusing on customer satisfaction and needs. They implemented the Santander telephone banking to help make simple queries self-service.
