Frequently Asked Questions
How do I track my order?
If you are calling the DHL phone number on this page, you will need to quote the waybill number that you were provided with. This is usually used to track the parcel – if you have lost this, it still may be possible to track using the shipper’s reference number.
What does “Invalid waybill number” mean?
This usually means that you have entered the waybill number incorrectly or the number you are entering is not the waybill number. This is usually a 10 digit numeric number.
If your issue persists, please call the DHL number above and speak to customer services.
Why am I being told to contact DHL customer service number?
This is usually because we have insufficient information to track or deliver your parcel. A slight bit of assistance from you is usually needed to get things going again, please contact the DHL UK customer service helpline for more information.
If I don’t do not have my waybill number, is it still probable to track my shipment?
Yes, under particular cases. If you included a shipper’s reference number on the waybill, you can track your Time Definite and DHL ECONOMY SELECT shipments using their online Shipper’s Reference Tracking service.
You can also track the ECONOMY SELECT shipments by piece identifier (or ‘JD’ number) using their main tracking service.
If you are unable to track by Shipper’s Reference or piece identifier, please contact Customer Service for assistance.
How do I make a claim?
If your shipment did not arrive, it is vital that you contact Customer Service with a correct description of the goods and their packaging as soon as possible. The company holds on to items that do not have a proper address or that has become detached from their packaging.

DHL is an express mail and logistics company. It is a division of the German owned Deutsche Post DHL and is the largest company of it’s type in the world, spanning services to just about any country.
Originally American, DHL was first interested in delivering documents from Honolulu to San Francisco and visa versa. Within 10 years the company had moved to the international stage where it delivered and collected from countries that no one else was working with at the time namely; North Korea, Chine, Vietnam, the Eastern Bloc, Iraq, Cuba and the Soviet Union.
After 3 years of buying shares in DHL, Deutsche Post finally had majority ownership in 2001 and completed the purchase in 2002.
The founder was Larry Hillblom, who in the 1960’s was studying law at the University of California. He was in need of money and decided to run packages between San Francisco and Los Angeles. He managed to do this up to 5 times a week, for which the companies purchasing his delivery service were able to more than pay for his flights.
After University, he started doing this full time, which is where (after some research) he found that no one else was willing to do the run between San Francisco and Honolulu. He enlisted the help of two of his friends and the rest of his student loan and began expanding almost straight away.
